A huge fact considering the top two were Ford and Chevrolet. This led to the new 218.8ci Flathead Straight 8 cylinder engine introduced in 1930 to push them continue to pursue prospective buyers. Its block and crankcase were cast as one unit, fitted with two overhead cylinder heads. The crankshaft was balanced like the Super Six engine they had tremendous success with.
